Downtown Austin Is A Bargain

While downtown living may be out of reach for most Austin residents, it’s a bargain compared to some of the most expensive neighborhoods in other U.S. cities.

According to Zillow.com, downtown Austin is currently the most expensive neighborhood in the city. Median list price per square foot in downtown Austin was $351 in January. Here’s how it compares to the priciest neighborhoods in selected other U.S. cities:

Note: Some of my realtor friends quibble with the accuracy of Zillow.com, but these are list prices, not Zillow’s home value estimates. Also, data for only one month may not accurately reflect market conditions, but I tried to minimize that here by using median list price instead of average list price.
