Understanding the difference between traded and non-traded industries is Economic Development 101, but a new paper by Nobel Laureate Michael Spence and Sandile Hlatshwayo deserves a close read. It’s a cogent reminder of the pace at which globalization is impacting value chains and industrial composition, not to mention the practice of economic development. Consider this a call to action.
